How does it feel? (2018)

The goal was to step away from more organic structures. Opting for something more angular and man made. The Roland TB-303 Devilfish was a really interesting unique synthesizer as it was a modified version of the original 303. Without delving too deep into details, the devilish modification resulted in a very unique sound and a lot more capabilities on a technical level. I really enjoy the malleable, interactive aspect of technology, especially analog devices like this one.

The work was used as a means to understand the evolution of technology. Today the way most people interact with their gadgets is via a touch screen. However there is something so tactile, precise and irreplaceable about a switch or a button. From the feedback it gives, to the sound it emits when interacted with. There is something so important about these switches, that are less and less present today. It is surreal that it only took less than half a decade before we ditched the analog and fully transitioned into more digital means of interacting with objects. Even presently there are younger generations who have never felt the gears of a manual transmission. There are less and less instances of tactility in our youth. Play is now generally done through a virtual medium, conversation comes less from the vibrations of the voice and more from the tapping of screens and the movement of displays. The piece is a cry for a world with a far more engaging sense of touch and a return to a time where things felt more malleable.
