Description:
There is a beauty in both how grief actually functions versus how we perceive it. This series will serve to understand both of these notions. In an attempt to trap the feeling of such strong emotions as truthfully and as faithfully as possible while also making it diegetic, compelling, interesting and understandable to a viewer. I hope to address not just these two aspects of grief but also it’s repercussions to the psyche and the questioning of the self. Something unresolved that simply cannot be resolved anymore. The attempt to make amends with something that is otherwise un-fixable.
In Retrospect:
I was inspired by collage and escapism. Implementing a varying amount of animation techniques ranging to traditional point to point to rotoscoping. It was the first time using a rotoscoping process to this extent. Because of the limited 3 month time frame that the project took place in, it was important to create each component as efficiently as possible. It was also vital to scale down the project into very simple chunks relying on strong semiotic principles such as color, specific symbols and of course the animation itself. The speed and tempo of each section was important to illicit the feelings and the denouement of guilt that I was trying to represent in the work.
